Lunchtime Concerts Feature SOU Music Scholars

Looking for a refreshing way to make the most of your lunch break? Step outside and take a stroll across the scenic SOU Ashland Campus to the Music Recital Hall, where you can indulge in the vibrant sounds of live music performed by SOU’s talented Music Scholars. These lunchtime recitals are a free treat for the community—no tickets required—and parking is complimentary in Lot #36, just across from the hall.

Join us for four fantastic performances this Winter Term, each running from 12:30 to 1:20 pm on Thursdays: January 30, February 6, February 13, and February 27.

The first recital on January 30 will showcase a diverse range of talent, featuring scholarship winners Shannon Jackson, Nolan Pierson, Liz Pisarczyk, and Shea Miller. Get ready to enjoy an eclectic mix of marimbas, guitar, voice, and piano—an ideal way to energize your midday!

Can’t get away? Listen to the music while you work, as all recitals will be livestreamed for free. Visit our website to get the free links.

Senior Shannon Jackson will open the recital on Thursday, January 30 with a 2019 composition written by Emma O’Halloran “how sweet the thought of you as infinite” on marimba. Jackson is the recipient of the Leon Mulling Scholarship and is a member of the SOU Percussion Ensemble and is in her 5th year as a Raider Band member.

The second performance will feature percussion student Nolan Pierson, a Trauffer-Polich Percussion Scholar on marimba with “Virginia Tate” (1999) by Paul Smadbeck (b. 1956). Pearson is a junior this year and a member of the SOU Raider Band and Percussion Ensemble.

“Just Be” (2023) written by music scholar Liz Pisarczyk will perform her composition on guitar and vocals. Pisarczyk is the recipient of a Music Talent and Music Department Scholarship.

The noontime concert will close with Shea Miller, a Music Talent Scholar, and soprano performing “Va Godendo” from Serse (1737) by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). Miller will be accompanied by Dr. Mikiko Petrucelli on piano.
