Below statement made by representative of Steinway & Sons, Phillip Miller.

“Good afternoon,
Thank you for allowing me to say a few words at this recital here at Southern Oregon University. My name is Philip Miller and I am a representative from Steinway & Sons. Today, we have the privilege of recognizing an important professional milestone for a musician who has contributed so much to this university through performance, teaching, and artistic leadership.
It is my honor to share that Dr. Alexander Tutunov has been invited to join an international roster of pianists with the designation Steinway Artist. This is not an award that someone applies for casually, and it is not given out broadly. The Steinway Artist designation is a professional recognition reserved for concert artists, musicians, and educators whose work reflects the highest level of artistry—and who have made a meaningful commitment to sharing music at that level with their communities, their students, and their audiences. The Steinway Artist family includes historic figures like Rachmaninoff, Rubinstein, Horowitz, and Gershwin, along with a distinguished list of modern artists. When we say “Steinway Artist,” we’re recognizing more than technical excellence. We’re acknowledging a career shaped by musical integrity, depth of interpretation, and the kind of consistency that earns trust—on stage and in the studio. It also reflects a belief that what we do in music matters: that artistry, mentorship, and the pursuit of beauty are worth investing in. Dr. Tutunov embodies all of that. Those who have studied with him, collaborated with him, and heard him perform know the care he brings to every note—and the standards he sets. On behalf of Steinway & Sons, and on behalf of everyone gathered here today, congratulations, Dr. Tutunov, on this well-deserved recognition. It is my pleasure to present you with your Steinway Artist certificate. Ladies and gentlemen, please help me congratulate Steinway Artist Dr. Alexander Tutunov.”

I’m both humbled and honored with this rare, high distinction, and I certainly view it as a great opportunity to put SOU on the map, to recruit, and to further my own performance career. – Dr. Alexander Tutunov

With this honor, Alexander Tutunov joins a small but distinguished group of Steinway Artists teaching at West Coast colleges and universities. While student pianists already travel from all over to study by his side, this award will further elevate SOU as a world-class destination for piano studies. – Dean of College of Arts and Humanities, Andrew Gay
