July 17 – July 21, 2023
The Ashland Chamber Music Workshop (ACMW) in beautiful Ashland, Oregon, has been offered at Southern Oregon University every summer since 1976 except during the COVID pandemic in 2020-2022.
ACMW is back this summer under the leadership of Lorin Groshong. Lorin is a musician who has not only played in ACMW but has also worked closely with Phebe Kimball, who ran the workshop for 40 years.
Why come to the workshop?
- Work on a different piece of music with different musicians each of the 5 days
- Get coached by friendly, experienced chamber music coaches
- “Freelance” in the evenings with other ACMW musicians – choose pieces from one of the largest chamber music libraries on the west coast
Who can apply?
ACMW is aimed at amateur musicians age 18 or older. Strings, pianists, woodwinds, brass, percussion and vocalists are all welcome. In 2023 we are exploring chamber music repertoire that includes both traditional instrumentation (e.g. string quartets, woodwind quintets), as well as non-standard instrumentation that may include voice or percussion. Coaches strive to match musicians with others who play at the same level.
If you have attended ACMW in the past, you will soon get an email inviting you to return.
If you have never played in ACMW before, or you have questions, please contact Lorin Groshong, ACMW Director, at chamberworkshop@sou.edu to get on the email list or have your questions answered.
There will soon be a more extensive website here, with all the details about this year’s workshop, so bookmark the site and check back!
